I have an 898 on the bow with the transducer on the trolling motor. A 798 unit at the consol with the transducer on the stern. It is a 18 foot bass boat. I have noticed that when both units are running in side scan mode I get interference on the display. I appears as lines running accross the display about a half inch apart. When I shut down one unit the lines dissapear on the other. Is this normal? Can anything be done to minimise or eliminate this?

The problem is: When 2 sonar units transmit on the same frequency they will conflict and in effect cause interference with each other.

So you are saying that the interference is unavoidable? I never have any issues with visble interference when running two or more sounders in traditional mode only when on side scan.

If your sidescans parallel it should not be a problem unless something is deflecting the signal back. From your description they are obviously effecting each other. 2D sonar is notorious for doing that as the width of cone shaped scan is usually overlapping and causing that crosstalk that looks like interferrence.
