Title: Your opinion on sidways drifting modification.
Post by: backlashed on April 13, 2013, 09:59:02 AM
I haven't had my 898 SI unit long enough to fully understand its potential, so maybe I'm over thinking this.
So far I love what I'm seeing, and I'm glad now that I spent the money, but I quickly realized it's not favorable to my favorite style of fishing (sideways drifting). My question is.
If I were able to devise a mount that could be used in normal operation as intended, but had the ability to be rotated 90 degrees while drifting, would the hull of the boat being above the SI beam, have an adverse affect on it? OR would a second transducer mounted off of the side of the boat perpendicular to the hull be a better alternative. (removable for forward travel)
I'd love to be able to scan a drift pass, to give me the ability to plot the next pass.

backlashed,

A pole type mount that could be raised, lowered and rotated might work. I think there have been some of these type mounts posted here before. With a switch and a second transducer, you could set up a short tether towfish. The way they work, they will point into the drift and can shoot under the hull.

Tight lines,
Darrell

You could mount a ducer on the TM and be able to move it any direction you want.  A simple TS3 switch to select bow or stern SI ducer.
