Title: connecting dual beam transducer using y cable
Post by: Warrior12934 on April 07, 2013, 10:26:29 PM
I have a 997 and decided to purchase the dual beam transducer (xnt-9-20-t) and the splitter cable (as-si-db-y) to have the high speed pick up while on plane. I recieved everything but the dual beam ducer doesn't seem to connect to the wye connection very easy.  I'm afraid to force it for fear of breaking the terminal pins of the high speed ducer line.  I think I purchased the correct products after reading other posts about this although now I'm not sure.  If I did; how much force is required to connect the ducer line to the wye? If I didn't what should I have purchased?  Thanks.

I initially had the same concern when connecting the cables.  After fiddling with them for a while and exerting more force, the cables snapped together.  I think it just takes a bit of pressure, but it's hard to express how much that is.

Thanks Bob,  did you notice there are three pins but only looks like two gold lined female receptacles in the wye plug?

Sorry, I don't exactly remember the pin arrangements, though I recall studying them to make sure they lined up.  With fuzzy recollection I thin there were 3 pins in one connector and 5 in the other - but I could be wrong.
If I recall correctly, the two connector ends on the Y are shaped different to assure that the correct connector is inserted, i.e. the cables are "shape coded".  When pressed firmly enough I recall they kind of snapped together so they wouldn't come apart easily.  You'll know if you have the connector inserted fully when it snaps together.

That is correct Warrior.  The third gold pin in the transducer connector is for the temperature which does not get connected when using the AS-Si-DB-Y cable.  The water temperature comes from the Si transducer.

By the way, the female connectors on these newer As-Si-DB-Y cables are shielded to help keep interference to a minimum.  The additional material that is needed for this also makes for a more secure fit.

That sounds good.  Thanks for helping me out!
