I just received my new 1198 C SI today and I am wondering if there is any problem with the screens clouding.. I have a 798 CI SI that the screen clouds up with rain drops and finger prints and I have to use glass cleaner with lemon in it to get it clear. If there is the same problem with the 1198 then is there a screen protector that is available like is used on cell phones?

I've used this one for over 3 years with good results...

Now I'm trying this one...(I have it installed but not tested in sunlight yet)..

Curious, what caused you to try a different brand?

I had heard a report from someone on the forums that the Nushield DayVue product was supposed to actually increase sunlight viewability 10-20%...
My 1197 has the old CCFL backlit screen and I could use any increase in sunlight viewability...
I will report as soon as I get the unit out the next trip...
(Screenpatronus is a very good product as far as protection for the screen...but not so much for helping view a non-LED screen)...

As a sidenote...
I tried the Zagg product twice when I first got my unit in Jan 2010...
I found it way too sticky to get a good application result..(but that could be because I'm super OCD)..
The Screenpatronus was easier to install ....and I found it very sufficient in the 3 years that it was on my 1197....(I frequently clean my screen throughout the day)...
The Nushield product I just installed was even easier to install than the Screenpatronus ...
We shall see about the claims of better sunlight viewability...

"..(but that could be because I'm super OCD).."-- I like to hear that about a person---because that means I'm not alone.
Please keep us posted.

your calling the screen getting dirty, screen clouding? lol
use this, its recommended by humminbird. lemon will most likely take the protective coating off of your screen

I was able to experience the Nushield DayVue screen protector product on the water Sunday afternoon...fortunately I had some full clouds part of the time, full sun part of the time, and partly cloudy some of the time...
http://www.nushield.com/order_now.php (http://www.nushield.com/order_now.php)
This gave me the opportunity to test the Nushield in varied lighting conditions...
I must say I am very impressed the Nushield DayVue product..the screen was definately noticeably crisper than viewing thru the Screenpatronus ...
http://www.screenpatronus.com/ (http://www.screenpatronus.com/)
It's difficult to actually assess brightness comparison without 2 units side by side ( I only have the one 1197)....but the image crispness thru the Nushield was as if there were no screen protector at all on the unit...
The Nushield DayVue nomenclature states it cancels out glare...I guess what they consider glare and I consider glare must mean 2 different things...I found the Nushield DayVue product more "reflective" than the Screenpatronus ...I could see my reflection in the screen easily...
I have learned (even from the Screenpatronus) that wearing a dark shirt and adjusting the angle of the screen to reflect my dark shirt works very well for canceling this screen "reflectivity"...(realize I'm slow-trolling from the bow with my unit 3 feet in front of me where I can easily reach the buttons)...
So, in a nutshell, image clarity thru the Nushield is impressive...
Screen reflectivity...I can work around it to gain the better screen image clarity with the Nushield...

Thanks. Will order one tomorrow.

If you had more than one of these Rickie you could cut it in two and cover only half the screen. That would work for a comparison.

And that's a cool idea...because...as a matter of fact...
I ordered 2 in case I messed the first install up...
Where's my Exacto-knife...??
I'm cuttin it in half....
(Thanks Greg)...

Take it off the unit before you cut it Rickie! :o
(I made that mistake on a tablet… :'( )

Thanks for the responses, I have a Nushield screen protector ordered. I also stated in my first post that I used a glass cleaner with lemon. I should have said that I added vinegar not lemon.

As I mentioned in a previous post...it seemed that the Nushield DayVue product was causing some reflectivity issues when installed...(reflectivity meaning I could see myself in the screen)...
Kudos to Greg for suggesting the idea of cutting my Nushield screen protector in half for testing...
Here are the results...
I removed the Nushield DayVue screen protector from my 1197 and then cut it in half horizontally....
The screen protector is installed in the "upper" horizontal half of the unit screen...
Notice the reflectivity in the screen where the reflection of my iPhone is...indeed the Nushield DayVue screen protector is very reflective....
I will be investigating other products....
