Title: Mounting 997 on Procraft
Post by: flippingrass on April 04, 2013, 01:03:36 PM
Good afternoon everyone.  I am in need of some assistance before I finalize my installation of a new to me 997.  I have a 1996 Procraft with no jack plate.  My boat haul has three steps.  The upper most on steps toward the bow 3/4" with the next step moving 14" towards the bow.  I will be completely honest and I am stalled and confused on where to mount the transducer.  I have read almost every possible post on several forums regarding transducer mounting.  This includes looking at tons of pictures of others installs.  I know optimal is on a jack plate or with a thru haul transducer but as of right now I want mount on the transom.  I completely understand that I will not get higher speed readings and that I may have to trim up in order to maximize SI.  The boat does have sponses but from what I can  tell I will be below them.  My main confusion is the placement of the transducer in regards to the portion of the transom where I plan to mount.  The manual suggests if mounted on the starboard side to use the lower left corner of the template and move as far as possible from the motor while staying under the sponses.  When I do this, the entire transducer is below that line of the transom.  The transducer would still be above the bottom of the boat as there is another step below it.  The manual states to adjust the transducer so that it is 1/8 to 1/4" beneath the botto of the transom.  Does this mean then entire transducer 1/8 to 1/4" below the transom line or the upper most edge of the transducer?  I apologize for being so long winded I am just in need to help.  Thanks for taking the time to read and respond, I appreciate it.

The bottom of the transducer should end up ¼ to 1/8 of an inch below the bottom of your transom.

Look to me like your best bet may be where the transducer in the pictures is shown.  Will this transducer get taken off or are you leaving it?

The transducer in the picture is from my 788 which is getting bumped up front.  So no, the only transducer will be the SI transducer.  I am going to bump the transducer as far to the right (starboard) as I can and have the bottom left edge of the transducer 1/8" below the transom line so that the bottom right edge is 1/4" may be a little more due to the angle below the transom line.

Thank you for your time and advice, I greatly appreciate it!
