Title: GPS Antenna confusion
Post by: jimmybass2 on March 20, 2013, 11:30:25 PM
I'm confused about the GPS Pucks. My BRAND NEW 1198 came with a puck labeled "Precision GPS Module" on it's surface.  My slightly older 898 (non-HD version) came with a "AS-GR50".

Is the one labeled "Precision GPS Module" (from the 1198) one that has a Compass?
If not, what are the differences between the 2 listed above? (precision vs 50)
Should I care?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Jim

GR50 is the old version.  I have not checked all the specs on the new precision gps receivers, but i am sure they are faster and more accurate than their predecessors.

The one marked “Precision GPS Module” is the newer GRP and it does not have the Heading Sensor in it (that is the GPS-HS).  It will work about the same as the older GR50 GPS Receiver but there are some differences.  I have not seen the accuracy test data yet but they GRP should be as accurate as the GR50 (2.5 meters).
