Title: What is a fish
Post by: rdstair on March 16, 2013, 02:31:29 AM
Using SI fish will usually show as white. with  DI or 2D  what are they supposed to look like. I know you have to get to know how to read your display. But I think some basics would help to start a lot of people off.

On DI fish should show up a s white dot.  On 2d sonar it depends on what you have your unit set to.  I always use arches instead of the fish symbols, Its more accurate.  I cant stress enough how important it is to thoroughly understand how sonar works. I get emails all the time asking these very questions.  I found a website that really explains how sonar works and what your looking at.  http://biggeorgiaspots.com/boats-and-electronics/traditional-2d-sonar.html (http://biggeorgiaspots.com/boats-and-electronics/traditional-2d-sonar.html)  Id go into detail about this but its very hard to explain in text only.  Without pictures, its very hard.  Heres a pic of a really nice 2d image.  this is a small school of walleye feeding on a school of perch.  Walleye are near the bottom and you can see the arches very well.  Good Luck
