My old boat had the DF's removed at the end of every outing and stored in a carry bag.
My new boat just delivered has bow and console units surface mounted.
After several days in sub freezing temps, it dawned on me the units are out there on the boat.
I looked in the manual for temp range specs, but saw none listed.
Does freezing harm these units?

Until this year all of my locators have been stored out in a non heated garage with not one problem in 15 years
This year I put a new HB 1198 SI combo on the boat, it comes in the house mainly because of cost to replace if something went wrong or if someone breaks in and steals it
When I bring it in it stops just inside the back porch door because I believe that it should be close to the temp outside to keep from purgeing the nitrogen inside the system due to rapid temp change which will make it non water proof and then not safe to use in bad weather, rain or humid conditions

We don’t add Nitrogen to our units. The only nitrogen in there is from the air we breathe. Still I agree with your reasoning behind this as thermal cycling will eventually take its toll on most products – not just sonar units. It is one of the ways that you can prematurely age a product.
I think our units should be good down to about -20C for storage temps so that is like -4F. It may be lower than that but it may depend on the product. Let me see if I can get updated information on this and post back.

understood Greg I thought all HB locators were nitro charged I thought I was told by HB years ago my old LCR 2000 was charged
oh well, thats how I have keep my units over the years :)

No, we never nitro charged ours. We found out that the plastic is porous enough that any air pressure would end up venting out.

Confirmed: storage temps are -4F / -20C
