Title: Transducer Dilemma
Post by: garyr on December 18, 2009, 09:22:33 PM
I have the 1197si. I have good sonar view and si imaging at speeds less than 5 mph. My question is several fold.
1. Is the 1197 made for sonar view only at planing speeds? Say 15 - 30 mph? I understand the loss of si capability. Need to know if sonar view is capable at higher speeds.
2. Would it be recommended that I use the xnt 9 20 transom mount and the as si db y? Do end users obtain;  depth, bottom contour?
What is your thoughts on this additional setup?
3. What do the majority of 1197 si users have as their setup.
4. Should I mount another sonar just for the purpose of depth, bottom contour on the dash?

Gary,
I'm a humble 981 addict and try answer your questions.

1. You'll get the 2D sonar view at planing speed if your transducer is correctly trimmed.
2. If you cannot get the trim right for planing speed, I would suggest to get a second transducer for 2D view at planing speeds.
3. I think that's depending on the boat / hull type.
4. With a 1197 I don't think that this is necessary, since you can change the views and drive with 2D / SI splitscreen or 2D only. I suppose you have your unit mounted on the dash.

Regards/ Harry
