On a scale of 1----10 how important is the side of mounting? I troll very slow 90+ % of the time. My prop rotation is clockwise. I had a transducer on the left and i'll try the si ducer there and see. I've not read anything about this and just wondered if i was wasting my time testing it on the left.

Midtin,
The main reason it is most often mounted on the right side is because of transducer cable length. In most boats, the console is on the right side, so easier to run cable, shorter distance, etc.
So, either side should be fine, if the cable is long enough.
The one thing I try to stress is getting the GPS reciever as close to the transducer as possible. This will give you more accurate waypoints when marking structure, etc.
Hope that helps.

Thats good to hear. I thought that i was making a mistake starting off.

It would be a mistake if you had an inboard prop and the transducer was mounted farther aft of it. The rotation of the prop could cause aerated water to flow over the transducer. With outboard motors your only concern would be if you are in reverse (back trolling?). Otherwise it is all about the cable reaching, the convenience of installing the transducer on one side versus the other and trying to keep the transducer cable away from the motor (in case of electrical interference).
