Title: Sanpshot with Lakemaster chip
Post by: LBloch on February 10, 2013, 09:10:09 PM
I've been struggling a bit with the snapshot feature on my 998c.  I understand how to turn on the snapshot function and how to get a snapshot of the screen.  However for some reason, my snapshots keep getting saved onto my Lakemaster chip, even when I have a blank sd card in the other slot of the card reader.  Is it not recommended to take snapshots with a Lakemaster chip in the unit?  What am I doing wrong? I really don't want to fill up my Lakemaster chips with snapshots.  Thanks

I believe that snapshots are saved to the units memory and not to either card. LM or blank SD
To get the snapshots to a card, you export them from the unit. Recordings go directly to the card.

Ok.  I guess I undertand that.  Can I practice doing that in the simulator mode?  Or does it have to be in normal mode?

lock the map card to readonly and make sure the other card is NOT in lock mode.

I'm sorry. I mixed one of my responses ( since deleted) with another thread that I was following.
LocDown has the answer your looking for.

No problem.. You had me confused though!  I think I figured it out. I hooked up a transducer and gps and ran it in normal mode.  I took some screen shots and it seemed to work.  One thing I noticed is the numbers of the snapshots doesn't reset to "0" after I delete the images from the unit.  Is that normal?

That is normal

Thanks LocDown.  Is that what the little sliding "lock" button is for on the sd cards?  I thought that if I had that little button in the lock position the maps on the sd card wouldn't load into my unit.  Learning a lot here tonight. Thanks again

Yes, that is the write protect lock. You don't want your expensive map card accidentally getting borked right? :)

Well I have a couple of wayPoints on one of my lakemaster chips.. luckily it didn't hurt it any.  That's the probably the most important thing I learned here tonight!
