Hi Methers

Wecome to the forum :)
EBL: electronic bearing line, line of bearing from the ship.
VRM: Variable Range Marker, variable metering ring around the ship (distance measurement).

Hi Methers

In the age of GPS and AIS radar is actually no longer need to navigate. At night and in poor visibility it is used for detection of ships, buoys or passages. EBL is therefore not really important. With VRM, however you can define alarm areas around the ship.
Radar images properly evaluate is a matter of experience, maybe you have the opportunity to practice with an experienced skipper a little.
