has any one seen a sturgeon in the side scan mode?

Well, no.  Part of the reason that I bought a 998 was to locate Paddlefish (aka spoonbill).  We snag them in a Spring season and snagging is exhausting.   Spotting your large sturgeon on the Columbia seems like a snap, but I have not had much luck locating our 50 lb spoonbill.  I would hope that someone has located sturgeon as the technique/image might be similar for me in MO.  Good luck!

Wow, nice images and you even see the paddle (I think).  Maybe I need to work on my adjustments.  Thanks a ton.  The images to depth relationship surprise me.  I would have thought that this size fish would look like a blimp on the screen.  Come down to Hannibal sometime.
