Title: using HUMMIMBIRD to see sub botton profile (goldming)

Hey All !
I am looking for advises and indication for with one Hummimbird fishfinder more simple posivel I can read layers in sub botton of one river ?
with model? with the best transducer?how deep in the sub botton possible to read?color scale / grey scale?
I need to use as tool in gold mining prospect in river  ,

The Hbird unit is not a sub bottom profiler.  You need a sub bottom profiler for that.  You can get an idea of what the surface of the bottom is though.  Soft to hard.  Any Hbird unit will do that from the 385 to the 1198.

I don't know much about bottom conditions in your area, but I can get profiles in glacial clay down to 10 meters using the 50 kHz channel. The transducer can't paint a detailed profile because of the large width of the beam. For better detail a large transducer element, or a Mills cross is needed. Then it should be possible to do sub-bottom profiling in not too hard seabeds.

Hi Rickson

True sub bottom profiler operating at very low frequencies, but are also very expensive.
As Rickard already writing is not to make hard surfaces with 50kHz to quite a bit.
The transducer XHS9SI160T with 262/200/50 kHz of HB but can not even use only with the units 981c SI and 987C Si  >:(
AIRMAR has some alternative transducer for HB.

Rudiger, the XHS-9-Si-160-T transducer can be used by other 800/900 and 1100 series Side Imaging units.  Just select the “Sidescan” menu option in the Transducer Select/Connected Transducer menu.  You could also select the “Dual 50 / 200” menu setting if all you were going to use is the 2D sonar.

I’ve asked that this be changed Rudiger.  It should state something like: “Will not work with all Side imaging model units.  Consult your operations manual or contact the Humminbird Customer Resource Center before purchasing.”
