Title: Shared Transducer
Post by: jnordyke on January 28, 2013, 08:51:22 PM
I have a 597ci HD di with transom mount XT 9 NT transducer, and just ordered a 998c si that should arrive this week.  I will mount the 597 at the stern (I do a lot of controlled drift fishing on the Mississippi) and the 998 at the console.  I understand that with a Y cable I can switch the 998 between the side imaging transducer and the XT 9 NT for 2D/keeping track of bottom when running at speed.

The 597 does not network, of course. Can anyone think of a combination of cables and switches that would allow me to switch between transducers for the 998 as described above, AND use the same XT 9 NT transducer on the 597 - when looking at the 597 the 998 does not need to access the NT of course.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

jnordyke,
The AS-Si-DB-Y cable does not switch between transducers.  It makes an electrical connection to only the Side Imaging elements and temperature sensor within the Si transducer.  It takes these signals and combines them with the 2D sonar signals from the DualBeam transducer it is also connected to and sends them to the unit.  There is no switching of anything involved here.

The 597ci HD DI unit comes with the XNT-9-DI-T Down Imaging transducer.  The 998c Si unit was not designed to use this same transducer but in theory could use the 200kHz 2D signal from it.  To make this connection you would need a US3 Unit Switch and an AS-Si-DB-Y cable, but your 998 will not be able to use the 83kHz 2D sonar signal with the XNT-9-DI-T transducer and it will not have any depth readings while the XNT-9-DI-T transducer is connected to the 597ci HD DI unit.  So you would need to shut the sonar off on the 998 unit while using the 597ci HD DI unit, which could be done without also having to buy and install the US3 Unit Switch and AS-Si-DB-Y cable.

Hope that all made sense…
