The HDSi transducer you have will work as an ice fishing transducer and will be able to show all of the sonar data that the XI-9-20 Ice Transducer will plus more.

When using the XI-9-20 you will either have to manually put the unit into the Normal operation mode each time you power it up to use it or you will need to go ahead and set the Demonstration menu to “Off”.  This is because the XI-9-20 does not have a temperature sensor so the unit may not recognize that you have a transducer connected.  The XI-9-20 is designed to be used for ice fishing and so comes with a float and can be held in place by the tether cable that comes out of the top of the transducer.

With the HDSi transducer connected the unit should start up in the Normal operation mode and start working just like it was on your boat.  You will have the same DualBeam 2D sonar you would have with the XI-9-20 transducer plus you will have the Si sonar as well (this could be helpful to locate fish and structure if you can get the transducer down below the ice).  The problem you may run into is that the HDSi transducer will need so sort of transducer holding rig to be used for ice fishing.
