Hello,
I was wondering if this is a good or bad idea.
I have an aluminum boat and was thinking of mounting the transom transducer on an adjustible bracket

Wouldn't you be able to lower the transducer a little for cruising at high speed,, and adjust it again for trolling speeds?

I thought this would be a good option for the little guy,
If I decide to go clam'n I would hate to biff a $2-300 transducer on the beaches.

SPES...that is a great mounting bracket and the price is right. With the HB transducers I am beginning to believe that a bracket such as yours is the right way to go instead of mounting directly to the boat and then having no adjustment..

I would think this would depend on what "high speed" is with your boat setup....
The water's friction against the xducer on that bracket could be pretty substantial at speeds above 5mph... (I can't even image the friction at 50-70mph)...

I think this might work extremely well at low speeds.
At high speeds, I tend to agree with Rickie:
If you have it too low, I think the bracket
could get bent, or even shear completely off
from the force of the high speed water.
Regardless of speed, if you have it too low and
hit something, or run a ground, I think you will
be without a working transducer the rest of
the day.
Depending on how you mount the transducer
to the bracket itself, you could get some
unwanted water turbulence around the
transducer.

Well my "high" speed is off a 25 hp ::) Weeeee.
Shearing off at speed would be bad.
I mostly want the adjustability for when I beach the boat. That way I can make sure I get it up out of the water.

Depending on boat type and weight, I've read where some
25hp motors can push a boat close to 30mph.
That's pretty fast.
For your use, that mount may be an excellent choice.

Since most of the HBSDI transducers dont work well above a trolling speed just tilt the bracket out of the way when under speed.
