Still very new to this. So bear with me.

Looks like you transducer is mounted where it is getting interference. Sonar is bouncing back to it causing the wavy light to dark to light shades in your screen shot. Or you were in very rough water. Can you post a pic of where your transducer is mounted
-
I was in 2-3 foot seas at the time.

First, a question-- were you really in 480 FOW?

No not at all. I was in 40ft of water in 2-3ft short period chop. I was using yellowfin to playback my recordings. I am not sure why the it is showing that depth. What I think I am seeing is the ship channel buoy with a couple of large fish hanging on it. Not sure though.

First those are range lines not depth lines. Yes, that looks like buoy anchor and chain. The chain is moving in the seas that is why it looks like it does.
Where you beam to the seas?

I agree with Jim Jack and you that is probably a buoy and chain.
I haven't seen a Yellow Fin recording image ( till now ) so I didn't recognize what I was looking at.
The stock 998 doesn't have the range or depth capabilities shown on the image.
I saw you are in FL., so I thought maybe you bought the 1K transducer and that is what it looks like.
I'll try to do better next time.

I am not sure which ducer i have. Its big though. Am I really seeing the top of the buoy? On a side note I caught a decent fish off that buoy. I have been fishing a long time but this is my first fishfinder. Thanks for the help

The 1Kw ducer does not work for SI.
You are not seeing the bottom of the buoy you are seeing the anchor for the buoy. Because you seem to be getting some sort of reflected signal and the wave action the picture is bad.
Post a picture of your TD setup.

I will take a pic of my ducer and post as well. But here is another image of some stucture from the same day.

Here's my ducer

From what I see in your side shot is that you are going to get reflection off your motor leg unless you trim it up out of the way. If you need to keep the motor down you can always add a second treansducer on the port side utilizing a "y" cable. I do that on my pontoon boat and it works very well. With the "y" cable it splits the signal using only the outside halfs thus giving you an unobscured image. Hope this helps.
Cheers
