I am trying to mount my transducer on an old bass boat and it doesnt have the clearance between the transom and the motor, only about 4 inches. Is there any other way I could mount it and get it to work? I have a 798si

I figured it would, the boat is at my lake house a couple hours away, so I can't get a picture right now. It seems to me that I really just need to put a jack plate on it, so there will be sufficiant clearance. Also it doesn't have tilt or trim to get the motor out of the way when scanning.

If you cannot get the transducer to see past the motor, the other choice is to use 2 transducers for side imaging. I believe there is some information on this site about hooking up 2 transducers.
I am sure that you will hear from others on this site, hopefully with good suggestions.
Since you do not have pictures, can you give a description of the boat's transom and the size of the motor?

Without tilt/trim your only options are either to add a jackplate to move the motor back out of the way, add a tilt/trim or add a second Si transducer and an AS-Si-LR-Y transducer.

Here is a pic of the transducer. the images I was getting with it setup like this were really grainy. I probably need a lot of fine running if this transducer looks like it is setup ok. They were also a lot of black in the left side image.

Is there anything I could do to help with that? I am going to try to get sine screen shit next week I didn't have a ad card with me this week. It seemed to work better going a little faster, 6 mph compared to 3 or 4. I was adjusting my chart speed to match that. I was going by known structure and wasn't really able to make it out.

My guess is that it could be air bubbles as well. I see that you got creative and flipped the mount upside down to get it to fit under the step on your boat. Ideally the transducer would be flush or lower than the bottom of your hull but I see that you cannot do that without damaging the transducer with the roller on the trailer when you load/unload your boat. Without going to a jackplate or a two-Si transducer system as mentioned before, this may be the best that you can do – but let’s see some screen snapshots first.

Thanks for the help I will get some snap shots this week and post them. I have been so excited about this unit since I got it, just ready for it perform like the ones I see on here.

Maybe you could push the bow hook winch thingy on the trailer back some so the back of the boat is hanging off the back of the trailer instead of inside it.
