Title: How to view snapshots.
Post by: Speedtroller on October 20, 2012, 02:54:55 PM
I have taken a bunch of snapshots with my 798 onto my sd card. I can't figure out how to view these. Do you have to do a recording to view it or can you just do snapshots. When I put my card reader in the computer it shows a few different kind of files a dat file a Jpn file and a file with a soooo3 when I try to load any of them it says this is not a hummingbird file or something like that. What am I doing wrong. I'm sure this sounds stupid to some of you more experienced guys. I am not very computer savvy so any help would be greatly appreciated

Snapshots can be viewed on almost any viewer program.
The .dat and s000003 files (where s0000003) (can be any name similiar) are HB files and require Humviewer to see. However the .dat and associated .Son and .Idx must not be corrupted.

Your 798ci Si unit should be making *.png files which are one of several picture type files and can be viewed using many standard picture viewing programs that are most computers.  Try installing the memory card into your computer and navigate to the memory card, then double click on one of the *.png files.  Your computer should automatically select a program and open the picture file you selected.

If you intend on posting these to other web sites or places you may want to consider converting the file to a JPG format (JPEG)...this is done by several of the viewer programs available. (photoshop or print shop pro for example). Convereting to JPG allows you to reduce the file size andf then upload without a file size restriction that is on the internet sending capabilities.
As well as almost any viewer will recognize the JPG format..
