Title: 788 HD DI Combo. This makes no sense
Post by: oceannavagator on October 18, 2012, 09:19:00 PM
My unit has operated fine for 14 hours. My Navonics chip needed upgrading so I attempted to do it over my Phone line connection. I kept timing out so when I put the chip back in I had absolutely no chart. The screen said "loading chart" for an hour. I took the chip to my dealer and he upgraded it and tried it in a Lowrance machine where it worked fine. After I returned home I installed the chip in the HB and I have the same problem.
Any Ideas on what gives?

Sounds like you still have a problem with the Navionics chip as this is the only thing that has been changed.  Have your dealer try it in another Humminbird unit this time as a Humminbird unit looks for and loads different information than the other brand does.

As a followup. Spent most of Friday on the phone with Humminbird and Navonics. Seems that the 788 doesn't recognize the community resource portion of the new Navonics update. But even after deleteing the CR file I've still got problems with the chip. Could have been corrupted during the several interrupted downloads I tried due to my slow dial-up internet. So anyway, Navonics will accept the chip back under warranty and ship me a new one. Lucky me, I found the receipt deep in the corner of the garage. Would be nice for Humminbird to tweak their software to allow the use of community resource material.  Just saying.
