Title: 597CI HD DI COMBO - Transducer Mounting
Post by: Tmserks on October 03, 2012, 11:55:27 PM
Hi All,

I recently bought a 597CI HD DI combo for my 15ft runabout.
It is a great unit and is working well except when moving.
As I pick up speed, a stream of water starts to fly up behind the boat from where the ducer is mounted.
The faster I go, the bigger it gets, up to 4ft above the water. This in turn causes interference and blurs out the screen.

I followed the install intructions and below are some pics of my install.
Firstly, I mounted it on the mounting plate, but the bottom of the bracket was hanging below and causing water to stream up.
I then mounted it to the right on a home made 'Stern Saver', but there is still a stream of water.
Can anyone see anything wrong with it or have any ideas why this happens.

Thanks.

My HDSi TD does the same somewhat.  At full speed I have a stream that goes as high as the engine and just makes a mess of water spots all over the engine.  It doesn't cause any interference though since you don't get SI/DI or even 2D much past 5.5mph and I still get great depth readings at 40mph.  I used the plastic plug that came with my 798 to cap off some of the gaps/areas that water was getting too at speed and shooting up and out and then took a small piece of thin scap metal to cover the rest of the open areas that water got into then shot up and out of.

My HDSi mounts different so some of that won't make sense.  The plastic plug that came with my 798 should of came with your 597.  The mounting brackets, etc are about the same.  If not more than likely the item that will "fix" your problem.

Thanks for the info.

I have look on the web some more and found that this is a common problem.
The 2 most common solutions are the plugging of the gap and and splash gaurd to stop the rooster tail.
I will try the plug and see if this helps.

I would have thought that I could get a 2d image at a higher speed than 5-6mph.
Could anyone else tell me if they are getting images above this speed? If so, what speed?

Thanks.

Hi mate,
I am no expert, but your ducer looks too low when compared to the bottom of your hull, this will cause the rooster tail from the leading edge. Try raise it an inch or so and see if that helps?
Let us know how you get on.
