I meet up with a group of guys every Nov to fish Suwannee FL. We all now have DSC radios hooked up to our GPS's and radios configured with our own MMSI. I have the radio wired to the pigtail off the gps using all 4 wires.
I wanted to know if the HB supported my Standard Horizon GX1150 NMEA 0183 output of DSC and DSE and will plot position reply on the chart?

Jin Jack, DSC,DSE and AIS can be by some Humminbird units. :)
I have a 1198csi/1158c hooked to a Standard Horizon GX 2100 AIS,DSC,DSE all work well. At the time that I did the instaltion Standard Horizon nor Humminbird had Guides to help now Humminbird has a PDF File in the support section under AIS/DSC. >:D
You may need a Dual RS-232 plug.
In Short Yep it will show POS and all info of target. ;D

Thanks Roddy. I think it is a little easier now that the pigtail has both RX and TX wires and the instructions are in the box for AIS hookup. All the info I could find on the HB site was how to get gps to the VHF for DSC and that AIS show up on chart, nothing about being able to plot position on chart from in-bound dsc/dse.

To be clear here: the 998c Si unit will show DSC plots from other boats only if it is connected to an AIS system – not just a DSC radio. Connecting the unit to a DSC radio will only output the boat’s coordinates from the unit (actually from the GPS Receiver) to the DSC radio. I don’t know if your Standard Horizon GX1150 is just a DSC radio or a full blown AIS system or not.

It is just a DSC radio with no AIS. The radio does output DSC and DSE though. Are you saying the 998 only recognizes DSC/DSE from AIS systems?

As far as I know. I have not heard anything otherwise so far. Like I said: I do not know the capabilities of the radio you have.

Jim Jack, I/A/W the 1150 manual the DSC/DSE of a station position should plot on your Humminbird chart ploter unit. I know it does on mine.
