Title: 787c sonar problem
Post by: larry e frazier on September 24, 2012, 07:53:00 AM
my 787c sonar is not changing ranges andis not indicating the correct depth digitally(reads 1.6 ft all the time) but the sonar reads the graph very weakly. It is stuck on 0-10 ft  scale . I have tried to reset the defaults with no help. Could the transducer cause the sonar to do this? Gps and other features work fine. When I tried to increase the range manually the signal was very weak.
Any help would be appreciated. Larry

Yes a bad transducer can cause this Larry.  A bad installation can cause this too if the transducer is mounted inside-the-hull.

If you know someone else with a Humminbird unit you can test your 787c unit (or is it a 787c2 model?) on their Humminbird transducer to see if it works better or not.  All but the Humminbird models with “3D” or “DI” in their model names will work for this – even the Side Imaging models.
