Title: Lost gps signal on 797
Post by: Rick9194 on September 14, 2012, 12:24:42 PM
I was out on the water yesterday. When I went to a view gps, it says "no gps fix" .... the voltage is good, self test says passed, diagnostic page say err 621 sm.

Not sure what to else to check?? anyone have any ideas?

I bent a couple pins out slightly on the receiver plug, it seems to be a decent connection.

Do receivers "go bad" ?  How would I be able to tell if it had gone bad? I don't have anyone to switch out with. I'm in salt water and most guys don't have them ... I brag on mine all the time and cant get anyone else to buy one.

This puts me 90% out of commission as far as fishing goes. Most of my best fishing spots require following a track to avoid oyster beds, shallow water and the like. Spent 1 hour yesterday trying to find my way out of a creek and across a flat. Finally had to get out and drag the boat for a couple hundred yards in 12 inch deep water before finding the channel. I really miss my gps already.

Its a beautiful weekend coming up also, I mean really nice ... dang the luck.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks and help

Rick,
Anything electronic can go bad.

A few suggestions:
 1) Even if you think your battery is good, and is showing sufficient voltage, fully charge and
load test your battery, and double check the connections to it.
 2) Make sure you are running the latest software for your unit.
3)Call Humminbird customer service (1-800-633-1468), they will know what that code means,
and may have suggestions for you.

Hopefully your unit is under warranty.

Good Luck,
