Hey guys, lately I have been noticing some erratic speed reading while at trolling speeds with my 898... It will read anywhere from .5mph-3mph and just flashing random numbers in between... I know my speed isn't fluctuating that much because I have I-pilot and its speed is staying consistent... I was thinking GPS puck placement as I have it mounted on the dash under my windshield on my Pro-V, but it just recently started doing this, worked good up until the last few outings... It also doesn't seem to effect my top speed readings very much if any, I see maybe the odd .2mph jump in either direction but that is probably just speed changes due to water conditions etc... Anybody else having this problem???

Patty, I see that the 6.180 update was your last update, If so try updating to the latest that has long file number 25+ letters.
If the update does not fix the problem swap out control heads.
Odds are the update will fix the problem. Humminbird Update 6.180 messed up a lot of units and the 25+ letter is the FIX.

Patty,
Did you change your boat configuration
before the erratic readings.
Add/remove/modify/replace anything?
It could be interference that's causing the erratic readings.

The only thing I've changed on the boat is the trolling motor... Its a 24V Minn Kota I-pilot... But its been on there for a while and only a couple days shorter than the 898 (new boat all rigging done in first week)... It was working fine then all of a sudden it started getting erratic... I thought it was the puck placement but I get good satellite reception (according to the bird)... Also I think that if it was interference between the trolling motor i would notice something with the I-pilot seems as how its entirely GPS based...

If you think it's GPS based, then you could try and
route the GPS puck wire as far away from the
transducer wire as possible.
