Title: Overkill
Post by: Rüdiger on August 29, 2012, 08:47:54 AM
Hi all

Yesterday, for me my personal meltdown occurred. If a short circuit in the electrical system, both my Humminbird sonar as my EAGLE plotter depth sounder were destroyed. A voltage converter for the computer did not survive either.  :'( :'(

Terrible!!!
Do you mean there was a short circuit somewhere in your boats electrical system? How could that affect the various apparatus so much??

Sorry to hear it.
Did you have an inline fuse on your units?

Unfortunately, most certainly, a newly built 12V power was the source of error.

Do you have a back-up ? If not, phone HB in USA to see if the unit can be repaired maybe there some type of interanl CB just for that of error ?

Thanks Roddy

There was nothing saved, would be the least problem.

Hi rudger, there is supposed to be a resistance at the power intake at your units. this is a safety feature, that is made to protect the rest of the circuits in the unit. and if youre lucky and the power overload wasnt to big, only these resistants are fryed and need be replaced. your local tv/radio serviceshop can test if this is a posibility.

Thanks Stig

Will open on the weekend my Eagle unit itself and test what can be done.

The eagle lives

In a final test before the repair of my EAGLE-unit it worked perfectly again. :D
Self-healing in electronics ????
The HB sonar shows unfortunately this property, and must in the sevice. :'(
