Will the depth display at cusor location? Is there a setting to enable it? I just made my first trip with the unit and the "depth" field remains blank.

If you are looking at a map(on your screen), the depths shown
there are static, and based on how good your map is.
Some Navionics maps have 1 foot contour lines.
Also, set chart detail to 'All' and spot soundings to 'Visible'
under your chart menu so that you can see all that your map offers.
The depth shown on the bottom or left of your unit is the depth
underneath your transducer. It is in real time, and has nothing to
do with any map.

Well, I was wondering if the depth "box" would display the depth at the cursor location in side imaging mode. During the time I used it, it remained blank.

I think the depth box always displays the depth from the bottom of the transducer to the bottom
of the water you are in.
You can display the depth lines on SI to figure out
how deep something is displayed.

What he is asking about is the water depth under the cursor position (see images below). This is only shown when the cursor is very close to the centerline of the Si View. What I have seen is that the cursor can be no more than six feet from the Si centerline.
