Title: 6.310 Update for 1197c

I've been monitoring this update for some time, and I've
been extremely hesitant to update again, since the 6.180 fiasco.

Update 6.310 was released on 4/23/12.
I haven't been able to find one bad word said about it over the internet,
so I took the plunge and updated last night.

Man, was I pleasantly surprised.
My machine has never been so reponsive.
My XM weather updates are very fast.

Now, mind you that I haven't been on the water yet.
But, all indications look like this is the best my machine has
ever been.

I used this update on the water for the first time today.
Absolutely superb.
I especially like the option to completely turn off tracking.

will this update work on my 1198 unit or is different from the 1197 updates ?

No calli1, this update won't work with the 1198.
They are completely different machines.

Just to side step a bit but kind of relative to this thread is the name that HB gives to the software update.
The long name .bin that is currently used is worthless to us out here and especially if you are trying to see if you are up to date or if it is for your unit.

00a4f68440224afcada233122a97bf34.bin means absolutely dick (nothing)..

HB would be smart to take control of the code updates and make the name meaningful.

1197c6.310 is a very good way to tell the unit and the release.

It would not get folks in a bind by trying to use something that is not for their unit..

They are different updates for the 1197 and 1198 units calli1.
The currently available update for the 1198 units is version 6.420 which should include all of the 6.310 changes plus others.

We use our unit only for search and rescue and I do not know at this time what the latest firmware/software version is.  Any suggestions as to which updates would be best for search and rescue capabilities (Mainly sidescan and GPS)?

The latest software update for the 1197c Si units is the 6.310 software.  You can see this if you register your unit on the Humminbird web site.
