Title: Brand new 798ci SI. Anything I NEED to know? :)
Post by: massillonbuckeye on July 23, 2012, 11:16:07 PM
Coming from a 597ci DI unit, this will be my first SI unit.  Installing it tomorrow.  Using primarily on inland lakes and reservoirs 60ft deep or less.  Looking to troll some of the contours of the lakes targeting the 10-25 ft range.  Will be sharing pictures of anything interesting I see, although some of these reservoirs and pretty bland I'm afraid!  We'll see though!

massillonbuckeye, Good installation is the big thing after that it is a learning thing. The more time on the water the better!

Good luck and enjoy!

I agree with Roddy.
Time on the water is going to be your best teacher.

Be patient and don't try and rush things.
It will take time to tweak things.
You may end up adjusting your transducer location.

Some suggestions:
With your boat in the water fully loaded, try and have the transducer
more or less flat against the water.

Set your max depth setting (on sonar menu) to 10 feet greater than the water you are
fishing.  Your sonar will be more responsive that way rather than on auto.

Try and match your SI chart speed to your boat mph speed.
When using SI keep in a straight line for best images.
If you have any interference issues, get a separate battery for your sonar.

Good Luck.
