This is a general question. As my fishing partner and I have gotten older and less "bendable"; we have been pulling up the trolling motor to run to another location without turning off the depth finders. My question is: will this harm the units in any way?
I am in the process of deciding which HB units to put on my Skeeter 20i to replace the 520c Lowrance units. I am leaning toward the 998c SI Combo at the console and the 958c DI on the bow. After reading many of the posts; I see I have many decisions to make as to what accessories and transducers to match up to my applications. I will post more questions later as I become more aware of what to ask...LOL.
Thanks for any input.

You should be fine....pretty much everyone with a trolling motor mount just pulls it up and goes.
I think you will like the 900 series unit.....If I were you I would wait til next years models come out. Both the 898 and 998 are going to be getting a new LED backlit display that will really enhance the sunlight visibility of the units.

Humminbird's Greg has said that no damage would come to the unit or
transducer if you run the unit while the transducer is out of the water.
Fast talker:It would help if we knew the type of fishing you do.
That will go a long way into getting suggestions for what unit(s)
to get.

ITG brings up a good point for help.
If you can describe the water you fish in, the type of fish you seek and the general makeup of the water it will help to get units and settings. Also what all you intend the unit to do for you. Sonar, navigation, waypointing and tracks. Along with any maps you are looking for..
Thanks for bringing that up ITG..It is a very good point and can make a difference on selections..

Thanks to you all for the welcome; I will need all the help I can get...LOL.
I primarily fish in the Snake river chain of reservoirs for bass here in southeast Idaho. I will be installing in 2006 Skeeter 20i bass boat w/ 250 HPDI and Minn Kota 101. I want to be able to see at rest and at speed so will need appropriate transducers and mountings. I already have four batteries in the boat and sure don't want to add a fifth just for the units as I see recommended but also don't want interference.
After browsing through the site; I am having a twinge of concern as to doing the install but don't really have access to anyone local for a pro installation.
Thanks again for the welcome; I will check back with more info later.

Any idea when the new models for 2013 will be out? The thought of LED screens sounds pretty good to us blind ol' geezers.

dont start any rumors. HB needs to get their current stuff working before any new is added to the list.

According to a video from the iCast show, the 800 series will be available in December and the 900 sereis will be available in January.

To all that have answered, thanks for the information.
I hate to hear they are that far out but guess I will wait as they would be nice to have.
Thanks again.

Here's the I-cast video New Humminbird 800 and 900 Series Units (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_L3jTLecaM#ws)
My bet is that there will be some GREAT deal this Christmas for the current 800 and 900 series units.....so, if you are happy with the current brightness level, should be able to get a deal.
