Title: installing transducer
Post by: river life on July 18, 2012, 07:50:28 PM
i have 15' war eagle aluminum boat. i'm thinking about welding a aluminum bracket to the trasnsom so i can install si transducer. its like a bracket that is welded to pontoon boats pontoon. what yall think? does the transducer need to be placed even with the bottom of the boat or half way of the transducer with the bottom of the boat. as of now i have it to low (rooster tail) i think half way were the line is on the transducer and angled a little down. is that right? any good how to video.

Check this forum for posts on transducer mounting. there is a good amoujnt of pictures (media section) as well as installations.  Also use search for previous posts on transducer mounting.
You will find a lot of helpful information on the above.
The guys who have taken thew time to share their findings are a good way to browse for your mounting help.
Post a picture of your boat transom also..

Adding that mounting bracket is a good idea as it will move the transducer back away from the transom and more into the cleaner (air bubble free) water flowing under the hull.  The downside of this is that you may have to trim the motor out a little farther to keep from blocking the Si sonar to that side.

As for the roostertail: did you install the black rubberized piece in the transducer?  This should have been in its own bag with the unit.  It fills the gap made between the transducer and the transducer mounting hardware.

As for the mounting height of the transducer: using this bracket should allow you to be able to mount it a little higher than what the instructions state, but I would still start their to begin with.

When you are done and have it all tuned in, please post some pictures of the bracket and transducer as well as some overall pictures of the transom.  I think that many aluminum boat owners would be interested in this.  Of course, pictures of the fish you catch are always welcomed!
