I would first like to say that I have had my 898 on the water for about a month now and it is an absolutely amazing piece of equipment, but I am at somewhat of a loss regarding the water temperature display. I know a couple of weeks ago I saw the display on the screen, but is seems to have disappeared. Currently, I have tried resetting the factory defaults and also went into the set up menu and found the options to change the various displays. On this menu, it only displays the options for depth, time, time and date, position, voltage, etc., but it does not have an option for temperature. I also have the newest software version installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have 6.18 software, go to Setup, down to Select readouts, right to readout 1,2,3,4 & 5.
You should have 11 choices. ( course- depth- off- position- speed- temp- time- time+date- timer- trip log- voltage )
Note that there are choices left and right of "OFF". I'm not sure if all 11 are available for each box. IE, if not in box 1, try box 3 or 4.
Also under Views, scroll down to either Self Test or Accessory Test ( I can't remember which ) and change them from hidden to visible.
One of them should show if the unit is seeing the temp probe in the transducer.

I have the same problem with my unit ! the temperature is build in the side imaging transducer!
I did everything possible; set it up to advanced mode; restore defalts; I can set up only speed, depth, time, time and date, position, voltage, course but not temperature or triplog;
can anybody give an advise ?

Make sure the Sonar is set to 'On'.
Without it being on, you won't get the option
to display the temperature.
If you've ever set it to off, I think it stays off until
you set it back on.
If that doens't work, then check your transducer
cable for nicks, and the connection at the back
of the unit.

Hi ITGEEK ,
I made sure sonar is on ; is not working unfortunatelly !
I cheched the transducer and cable and no damage
what else should I do ?
thanks in advance

There should be two select readouts under your set-up menu:
'Select Readouts' (for Sonar), and 'Select Nav Readouts' (for your GPS/mapping screens).
Check the temperature display setting on both of those.
I'm pretty sure the ambient temperature will display on your
unit, even if the transducer is not in the water.
Other than that I would think that either your transducer has a problem, and/or your unit.
I'd give Humminbird Customer service a call Toll-free: 1-800-633-1468.
They may be able to walk you through some troubleshooting steps.
First, make sure you have registered your unit with them at the following link:

Good Luck.

Hi,
I do not have possibility to select Nav Reaouts - not on the screen unit and searched all views in the last weeks :(
I do not have also on set up view possibility to set up the speed or temperature ; they doesn't appear on the set up screen at all
out of the choice to send the unuit in USA, it will cost me 300 $ to ship it in Uk and back :( --- I am from Eastern Europe
if I would knew I will have this kind of problems I would't buy it :(
thanks

Try contacting Humminbird customer support.
They may be able to help you.
Sorry your having so many problems.
Humminbird makes good stuff, but like any electronics,
sometimes things just don't work right.
Humminbird will make it right, if you give them the chance.

rather hit it with a hammer then spend another 300 $ for shipping ;
they said they are not paying the courier - they are useless on this matter
funny .... on demo style everything is workin :) :)

You didn't say, but are you running the newest software?
If you are, and there is nothing else to lose, you could
go back to a prior software version.
Don't go back any further than what was on your unit
when you got it.
Another thought is that a corrupted waypoint may be
causing some problems.
Back up your waypoints to an SD card and remove all
from unit, and reformat the NAV directories.
Bring the waypoints into Humminbird PC to verify,
Then load them back into your unit.
-
I updated indeed with the latest software ! honestly do not remember what version of the software I had on my unit;
I will delete all way points from my unit and see if is working
thanks again - I will come back with news :)

last night I did what you suggested -- problem is not fixed !
-
I'm out of ideas.

Did you contact your more local Humminbird retailer about this?
Usually the no temperature problem is in the transducer. If it is under warranty, the transducer should get fixed under that same warranty.
Best way to know if the problem is in the transducer or unit is to test your unit with another Humminbird transducer (does not have to be from another 898c Si unit) and/or test another unit on your boat/transducer.
