Need 997c SI protective cover for trailering.
Any suggestions? prefer commercial product, just don't have time for diy
TIA

You can get the hard cover from Humminbird. Product number UC 5

I remember reading that a few of the folks had to strap the cover on because they would blow off.
My units are on Ram mounts so I transport the units in my truck. Also I like the protection of having them in the truck.

Yep, George, the covers will come off if not strapped on. We use a large fat rubber band.
You could use a velcro band also.

My wife made a bag to drop over my 798 that keeps everything together

Tks for comments. Ordered uc5 from amazon -$25.

My 997 is behind my center console windshield so the wind isn't as bad a factor as out in the open. I do have one of those big red twisty tie things I got from northern tool to help keep the cover on just in case.

I'm with George; all electronics ride in the truck. Printed circuit boards and vibration are not friends.
Upside- More security and less vibration. Downside- Plugging and unplugging the wire harness increases chance for problems.

Tell your wife "nice work" on the cover.

Previous posts before have shown the HB connectors to be be of less quality than some others. What seems to be the big issue is the loss of contact of the pins. Certainly plugging and unplugging has a wear and tension effect on the pins.
But security and vibration are also concerns.
If you remove take a little extra care and dont be rough.

I have been connecting and reconnecting since 2009 without any problems. I have always transported my HB units in the truck and have never given any thought to issues with the connectors. Hopefully I am not just lucky but it good quality pins.
I do think that some folks are a little rough in the plugging and unplugging, but with the block connection system do not see how we can screw it up.

George....I think you are pretty carefull with your units and as so will have a better time with contacts.
Other who rush the disconnect a bit will experience some of the loss of contact.
And also the male pin and the female receiver are not quite matched in size. This is a consideration when the female connector expands slightly over time and does not make good contact with the male pin. Which is why the slight bending of the male pin will most times fixes for a while the mismatch.
We do a lot of connect and disconnect and have contact problems from time to time.
Since our 1197 is out of warrenty we plan on replacing all HB connectors with the good type., including the one in the unit..

Several on the market and available usgin a google search for connectors.
However you can look at Lowrance and Garmin for a start and see a better connector for units that cost close to the HB price.
Of course in the higher range of units the connectors are much better but still of an affordable price and similar to the other manufactures.
Roddy has done a bit of looking and has links to the connectors. See if he will jump in here and post..
