Title: First run with new boat
Post by: rdstair on April 28, 2012, 07:07:41 PM
Took my first boat out yesterday to start breaking in the new engine. I have a 998c SI and a 1198c SI I can not get either unit to do DI. I had to mess with it a bit to get SI working. What do you think I am missing for DI.

RD,  check each unit to see if the unit has been upgrade to the latest changes.

Hanger fly them and get the basic set up done before going out on the water.

Good luck and enjoy! :-)  Roddy

Which transducers do you have for each unit..

Do you share a transducer between the two..

rdstair,
What did you have to do to get the Si sonar working?
Was this on each unit or only one of them?
Can you explain to use how each unit is connected to each other (if they are) and how they are connected to their transducers?

I am using one transducer with
ethernet tied to each other. DI Just comes up as a black screen. Not sure what I am doing  wrong. 1198 and 998 both are SI.

Which unit has the Si transducer connected to it?
Try disconnecting the Ethernet cable and see if the Di sonar comes back up on the unit that has the transducer connected to it.
Try swapping the units around so that the opposite unit has the transducer connected to it and the one that did is now getting its sonar from the other.
Are you running the latest software in both units?

The console has the transducer on it. I was not going to put the 6.180 software on the units. Because of all the problems. But I think I may try it to night. The wife is out of town the next two days. We are supposed to have bad weather here in MN the next two days so I will not gwt a chance to try it for a couple of days.

This problem with getting DI seems to span several different model units.
Could this be a common software bug?

I don't think so ITG.  I asked around about this and got the same reply: “How can he have Si sonar but not Di sonar?  They are the same sonar data just presented differently.”  If it were a common software bug I think that we would have heard more about it by now.
I’m wondering if there were unmentioned software updates for the Ethernet between whatever software version rdstair is running and the current 6.180 software.  I know that I have heard from others that have two Si units Ethernet connected who did not mention this problem.  We know that as a stand alone unit that the Di sonar works in both the 998 and 1198 units.  This is why I asked that rdstair test them again but without the Ethenet cable connected and also that he swap the units around to test them.

I talked to the deaership today. They gave me an extra cable to hook the 998 to the TM. Which has a built in the US2 TM. I think that might be what is creating the problem. I will not be able to try it out for a few days because of weather. But I willl try it out after that. Hopefully Friday.
