Title: Prop wash ? from TM mounted transducer
Post by: steelebob on April 27, 2012, 08:34:46 AM
In the past, I've been able to search around at less than 5mph using my gas motor. The transducer is on my TM and my screen is moved next to the console. My old TM was a 45 mk. Now I have a 80 mk (the setup for the transducer is the same) and that is when a very noticeable wash (at least it looks like a prop wash) can be seen on the DI and SI screens. When I change directions or stop, the screen changes or at best clears up, but if I start up again it will occur again. I tried raising the height of the TM which had some effect but did not fix the problem. Has anyone else had this problem and found a fix?

If you are only seeing this while moving I would expect lowering the transducer (trolling motor) would work better.  You would need to get the transducer lower in the water than the surface clutter that you are seeing.

Are you running back over the area you previously passed over?  It can take quite a while sometimes for pro wash to clear up from the water.

Steelebob, if you are seeing prop wash on the screen it will look like a long cloud, similar to bait fish on the top.. The water is highly aerated and breaks up the signal ability.
Yo will sometimes see this when another boat passes by. Depending on the thrust the cloud may extend a bit down into the water..

Snapshot a picture and post if you can..

I'll send a picture this weekend. The screen shows a wash that looks aerated but I am not running back over an area I previously passed and there were no other boats around.
