Will the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T tranducer be better then the XNT 9 SI 180 T? Will SI,DI, and Sonar work regularly if I get the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T to replace the XNT 9 SI 180 T? Worth the upgrade?

I love it well worth the money

it's a single transducer like the XNT 9 SI 180 T?
-
Basically the same but you lose a couple of frequencies on the xnt 180
XHS 9 HDSI 180 T Dual/HD Side Imaging Transom, 20/60/86/55 Degree, 200/83/455/800 kHz with built in temperature. 20' cable
XNT 9 SI 180 T Compact Dual/Side Imaging. 20/60/86 (2) degree, 200/83/455 kHz with built-in temperature. 20' Cable.

Yes it is a single transducer like the XNT-9-Si-180-T but longer and uses different mounting hardware. The longer length allows the use of longer Si sonar elements inside of the transducer that produce a thinner Si sonar beam which means sharper Si and Di sonar images. However, due to the smaller display on the 798 units you may not be able to see this difference. So can and some cannot, but almost all can see the difference if they are looking at a screen snapshot on a larger computer monitor.
When using the XHS-9-HDSi-180-T transducer your 798 will have the same sonar capabilities as it did before.

The length difference is 6" (hdsi) and 3 1/2 inches (si).
Almost 1/2 the size.
One of the advertising writeups was the shorter transducer was not as susceptible to being kicked up at speed.

what frequencies can be used? I've only used 200 and 83. How do you use 455? So the SI and DI is better with the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T, does the regular sonar switchfire improve as well? will fish and structure show better on the sonar for the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T ?

Go to your sonar menus and look thru the selections. Have your transducer hooked up when you do this..
Look for things like sonar frequency or side imaging and look at selections.
Depending on what is there select si beam over quadbeam if possible..
Look thru the menus csrefully and see what options they give you.
I am not sure how the 798 handles the hdsi capabilities.
Try menus and option to see what happens..

does anyone have pictures that can compare the two?
-
go to the Hb web site and select products then transducers then transom mount.
The xnt 180 and 160 are the same picture of the 160.
look at the xhs 9 hdsi 180 t at the bottom and then compare to the XNT's.
These two pictures show the long 6 inch XNT and the short XHS 3 1/2 inch.
Are these the pictures you wanted..

actual images of SI and DI?
-
OK, mis-understood you.
I will be out on the lake next week with our 1197, I will use two transducers and snapshot..
However the display should be the same for the equal frequencies.
but I will see..

Thanks Sonar2000. You are the most helpful person on here!

You will still have the same conventional (2D) sonar and Si sonar capabilities with either transducer (200kHz + 83kHz for the 2D sonar and 455kHz for the Si sonar).
There will be no difference in the 2D sonar with the SwitchFire menu set to either the Clear or Max Mode menu setting with either transducer.
The only difference will be in the Si sonar due to the difference in length of the Si sonar elements. The longer the Si element the fine the detail of the Si image (if you can see the difference on the smaller screen of the 798 unit).

It will probably be hard to see any difference. maybe on a viewer..
