I recently purchased an Interlink system to connect my Side Imaging 797c2 and a 788ci Humminbird systems. I connected everything as directed. Initially I turned on my 788 unit and the interlink connected and was able to receive waypoints from my unit. I then powered on my 79y unit and was unable to connect to the interlink. I then wen back to the 788 unit and it showed disconnected.... I have been unable to connect to the interlink with either of these units since the initial connection on the 788ci.
I have SW version:
5.840 on the 788
5.450 on the 797
I have called Humminbird several times and now they want me to send in both units with the interlink and possibly charge me $200 per unit to resolve the issue.
Any ideas? Is it worth the trouble? should I just send the Interlink back?

dont send it in right now.
There are posts here on the forum dealing with interlink issues such as you have.
Take a few minutes and (with a creative mind) try the search tab at the top and see what has been posted previously.
The posts are things that you can do to possibly fix the problem yourself.
Some items are distinct code levels, the order of hooking units up and a couple of other processes..
Also there are some very knowledgeable folks here who have experience with this problem and hopefully they can jump in and give you some things to do that may fix the issue without having to send it all in..

I know it sounds simple but I have found that sometimes you need to swap connections.

Try swapping the connectors first as revilo304 stated. If that does not help try the reset procedure shown in the Humminbird FAQs here:

The problem is that I've only showed the Interlink connected once and that was on the 788CI unit when I initially turned it on. I've never shown the 797 connected ever. The initial connection with the 788CI was the only connection with that unit. I have even defaulted the units. Removed all of the waypoints, reloaded the software, but still no connect. I was wondering if there was older versions of software that I should be using.
Thanks

It sounds more like the problem is in the InterLink than. You may want to see about getting it replaced and see if that works.
An afterthought here: do you have any accessories plugged in between either unit and the InterLink? If so, try it all again without this in the connections.

No other accessories. Sending back today.
