Wally had the Extreme III Card Reader ($9) BUT now I cannot open the recordings...
the format SHOULD be compatible in 2009 with the usual Mac and PC programs like Real Player or Quicktime or iMovie but it is not...this is a VERY weak feature...
having to download software to play simple movies in 2009 should not be an issue. Good grief.
If Photoshop and Preview can view-edit any HB scan...why the movie special software?
You also need a converter? Baaaah humbug. Its like making Beta products in a VHS world...
I guess also the thousands of Mac owners can forget viewing the movies on their laptops, right?

How about for 2010 a Recording format for the real world that we ALL can easily use with success???

Reelman,
I think you need a little more understanding of how sonar works and the recording process. The files that are recorded are not "Movies". The Humminbird Units and other side scan units record each individual ping data to the SD card. If you play the recording back on the unit, the internal software reads each individual ping, just like it was happening in real time. That allows the user to change features, colors, screens, and view GPS data.
In rder to play back the sonar data, it has to be converted to a format that is recognised by other side scan sonar software, or you have to create a viewer to interpret the data. Humminbird at this point has decided not to get in to the SSS software business.
So, with that, there are several programs available to view and play back the recordings. Some may need to use the HBSI Converter I wrote, and others can import the Sonar files directly.
As I understand it, there are PC emulators for MAC that can run PC programs. This may be yor best chance.
I hope this helps.
