Hello! I've bought 1198 recently, and then I’m trying to get NMEA output via HyperTerminal, and there is no response from the device. The device is connected to PC via COM-port (cable marked NMEA-COM), setting are bits per second - 4800, Data bits - 8, Parity - None, Stop Bits - 1, and Flow Control is Hardware. NMEA in the device setting is on. If anyone has any ideas, please help!
P.S. Sorry for my English.

Hi PC
Do you have enabled the NMEA-out in the settings off you unit ?

No information at all. No nothing.

The cable is NMEA-COM:
[attach=1]
And the programm is Hyperterminal and Putty.

Hi PC
I think that's not the right cable, you need the AS PC2 cable of HB.

+1 with rudiger....on wrong cable..
Also make sure your windows program supports the Hyperterminal application.
You might google the hyperterminal and you will see some information on it..

Hi,
I connect my computer to the tail-end of the Humminbird GPS cable. (I soldered on a DB9 serial connector to the short stub-end that comes out of the Humminbird GPS connector cable...)

thanks, tore....
could you post a picture of the cable wires (color) and the DB9 connector pins used..

Hi Chuck,
I soldered the white wire to Pin#2 of the female DB9 connector, and the black wire to Pin#5.
(...i.e. I wired it just to receive RS-232 NMEA data from the sonar/GPS)

I've tried all kind of cables in varios combinations:
unit - AS-YC - AS PC2 - PC
unit - AS PC2 - PC
Result is the same - nothing.
I guess next thing is Tore's solution.
Thank you all for your help it is greatly appreciated!

Tore....thanks for the picture...That lays it out nnicely..
PC. It should work but I still say check the windows application Hyterminal and make sure it is also working right....

Using the GPS Receiver’s ‘pigtail’ wire like Tore did is the best method for NMEA 0183 output from your unit while the GPS is in use. If you are playing back a sonar recording though you should be able to use the PC Connect cable.
Using the AS-YC cable you would have to splice into the NMEA-COM cable but not cut off the connector because you still need to be able to connect to the GPS Receiver.

Thank you very much!
Tore's solution worked! I think the problem was in AS PC2 cable.
Thank you all for guidance and support!

Yep...Tore is a pretty smart person..
