Here is what I have so far on the 1st release of the 6.180 (by long name/unit).
If you have a code (6.180) that I dont list can you send it to me for inclusion in the downloads.

The 898 update I sent you (if you got it) is the international version?? from the HB website which is available to all regardless of country. Put it this way my 898 unit is an international one but whether that makes any difference to the software updates I do not know.

Just tried to update to the new available 6.180 and my unit says "6.180 already installed " and now can not update the new 898 file
1. Is it necessary to install the new 898 update.
2. What does the new versionupdate correct if anything.
3. Is it any different to the first available 6.180

You have to revert your unit to the previous 5.7 update to install it.

Chuck the update number is for the 5.840 for the 798.
I wish they would release the 6.180 for the 798 :P

OK, let me check the downloads and make sure I have the right ones in the right place..
Are you saying the d00e412-----is actually 5.840.

6d244b9892154170b6ce162f420f2459.bin that I sent you is the 5.840 update for the newer 798ci HD SI unit.
The 798c has a different update file number.
If that helps anything.

i have a 1198c si with firmware 5.5, can I update to 6.18 with an SD card or will i have issues? Just am worried don't want to render my unit useless. Anyone update? Just looking for feedback from people that did.

Update decided to take the plunge and it works flawlessly. Updated by system being powered up and then putting in the SD card, used a 1G card. Double checked file size by downloading 3 times (OCD) :)

Any news on the 997 getting the 6.180 version update? I see that the 998 got it. Is there a difference w/998 & the 997? Can I use the 998 6.180 version in my 997?

I have no idea if or when the 997c Si units will get the features in the 6.180 software update.
No, the software update for the 998c Si units will not work in the 997c Si units. Each model units requires its own software update file and should not load the update file for another unit.

RDstair here is the instructions I followed, got the file off the downloads tab on this forum
You will need 2 things to do it the way I did. First is a formatted SD card. Second is a SD card reader/writer to USB for your computer. BTW make sure you are running windows XP or 7
1) Make sure you turn off your antivirus on your computer
2) download 1198c_6.18 file from SONAR2000 in the download section on this forum for the 1198C
3) save the file to your desktop
4) Plug in the USB adapter on the SD card reader/writer into your PC
5) insert in the SD card and format the card. I used a 1G card but I hear the High capacity 2-4 or 8G cards will work as well
6) right click on the 1198c_6.18 file on your desktop then (properties) that is on the desktop and verify that the file size is a total of 26.4MB- 27,664,330 bytes (this is important to make sure it didnt get stripped/changed during the save). Close file
7) right click on file again and send the file to the SD card drive.
8) open the drive that the SD card is on and verify the bytes size, if its the same you are good
Lastly, power up your 1198c-si. After it is fully loaded enter in the SD card. The system will tell you that you have xx firmware and are going to update to 6.18 do you want to do this? select yes the system will start loading the firmware off the SD card. After a minute or so it will power off the display and power back up to install the remaining firmware that needs to be loaded. Do not power off during this it will remind you as well.
The reason I like this method, is you 1) get the system powered up and 2) the system pops up a window asking if you want to load the firmware; it states the firmware you currently have and asks if you want to go to 6.18. This is extra security since it is reading the 6.18 from the card.
If you followed the instructions as above you will now be updated with 6.18 remove card and your done.

good write up walley...I would add that it might be a good idea to restore factory defaults prior to inserting the sd card and after the update has completed...
HB is supposed to have written that into new updates but it does not hurt to make sure.

Yes, I agree restore the 1198 to factory defaults before and after loading the firmware. Not sure if this is needed, nonetheless, it doesn't hurt to do.
