At what transducer mounting distance does port vs starboard matter?
Planning the large hd si transducer install for a new2me 997c.
I keep the boat in the water at a marina april-oct.
Going to try the stern saver transducer mounting system with polyethylene board & epoxy for screwless install.
From the prior well performing P66 transducer on the startboard side, there are 3 remaining screw holes which I'll clean out and plug & seal with marine tex.
Because I would like to keep an eye on that plugged area over time, i'm hesitant on mounting the
stern saver in this area and covering it up. And so I'm leaning towards mounting the si transducer the same offset from the hulls center line but on the port side.
From HB Tranducer install information notes "...Clockwise propellers create more turbulence on the port side..."
If the transducer is mounted >15" from the boats centerline,
and the forward edge of the prop is set back >15" from the back edge of the transducer,
is this enough overall distance that prop turbulance is a non issue and so side doesn't matter?
"...As the boat moves through the water, turbulence is generated by the weight of the boat and the thrust of the
propeller(s) - either clockwise or counter-clockwise. This turbulent water is normally confined to areas
immediately aft of ribs, strakes or rows of rivets on the bottom of the boat, and in the immediate area of the
propeller(s). Clockwise propellers create more turbulence on the port side. On outboard or inboard/outboard
boats, it is best to locate the transducer at least 15" to the side of the propeller(s)..."

Great photo work. This tells a lot..
I would think that you may get right side SI blockage to a degree.However you can raise the motor while trolling if you have a trolling motor..
The rest should work ok.
By the way...Si may not work above trolling speeds..for Si or depth...

Greatly appreciate your reply.
I'm thinking I'll give the port side a try for starters and see how it performs.
Then as you noted right side si performance might be marginal.
Perhaps require another si xducer for the old starboard location.
And/or might require a shoot through xducer to get depth at cruise speed.
So this may end off a multi phase project.

Joe, unfortunately it seems like you wil still be shopping.
Left and right SI and a thru the hull for depth at speed.
A lot of posting on this subject on the forum.

w2f4, Thanks for the pix. Looks like a EZ install 15 inch mim from the motor on eather side will work just fine. Roddy
