Title: Transduce mounting on I/O
Post by: jsiegle24 on March 13, 2012, 09:10:17 AM
Need help, I have searched the forum with no luck of finding an answer. i have a 1979 Sea Ray cuddy I/O, 23' with a 9.9 kicker.

I need to know if I am able to mount the 898si transducer on this transom and have clearance across for the si or will I have to buy 2, one for each side.

I am currently working away from home so I am unable to visible look at the clearances.

You can see where my current transducer is on the Port side.....will I be able to mount in in the same area and it still shoot across the housing for the lower unit??

Is there some sort of mount to add to this setup to make it work??

Sorry if this has already been posted but I have not found anything to help me.

I will attach a pic shortly as a reply.

Looks to me that just inboard of the port trim tab should work.

Maybe Roddy but I can’t see this area well enough to tell if there is going to be enough clearance or not.

jsiegle24 could you post another picture taken at about the height that Roddy suggested that the transducer be mounted but have the I/O outdrive down in the running position?  This needs to be looking from the port side of the transom across to the starboard side of the transom.  It looks like that kicker motor will be far enough away from the transom not to cause a blockage but not sure about everything else.

Here they are. I had a friend take the pics. Can you tell what way the prop spins by the pics.

Thanks again for advice

According to your first picture the prop has a clockwise rotation.  Not that it makes any difference.

That 898c Si transducer needs almost seven inches of clearance between the transom or step where it is installed and the I/O outdrive.  If you have that much clearance I think that it would work where Roddy indicated.  You would have to watch out when loading the boat though so you do not damage the transducer on the trailer rollers.  What do you think Roddy?

Most single props run in a clockwise direction.  If you have a two screw boat or a two prop drivewn craft using one motor then they run opposite of each other to prevent a crabbing to one strong side..

I stand to my first post! The out drive will require trimming out on a plane this will give room for the SI beam.

The transducer should be installed with the trim tab all the down to insure it clears.

SI/DI scanning should be done with the trim tabs retracted.

Don't use Happy Troller, the back wash of the prop will mess up the SI/DI signal.

So to use system, out drive up up/out some, trim tabs all the way up,trolling plate up.

Works for me!

Roddy

Thanks a ton guys. I have a couple more questions....

I am ordering the 898si from www.jandhproducts.com (http://www.jandhproducts.com)....the lowest price i could find, $1225.

Do i have to worry about what software it has on it..i.e. Could it be an outdated version or slower proccesing unit?

Extended warrenty....is it worth the extra 129$ for 4 years????

I doubt that it will come with the current 6.180 version software on it as it was released just this last week.  All you have to do is update the software though.  When the internal electronics was actually assembled will determine what software it has on it but as I stated it will probably need a software update to be current.

Not to detract you from purchasing an extended warranty here but when you buy the new 898c Si unit you should register it on the Humminbird web site and sign up for the Humminbird Select program as it extends the Humminbird warranty to two years.
