Title: 898 question?
Post by: basszilla on March 01, 2012, 03:46:24 PM
Does the 898 come with two different transducers?  One for SI and the other for 2D sonar?

No.  The standard XHS-9-HDSi-180-T transducer that comes with the 898 units have both the 2D and Si sonar capability built into it.

Many by a second inside-the-hull 2D transducer (XP-9-20) and an AS-Si-DB-Y cable for the best highs-peed depth readings on a fiberglass hulled boat.  This also allows them to mount the HDSi transducer where it is more protected and can possibly work better for the Si sonar.

Great Infomation guys.  Can't wait to get my unit.  With the help of this forum I have a good idea what I need to do to get this unit installed.

My unit is running the SI ducer when I am scanning, but when I run full speed I want to switch to my shoot thru hull 2d sonar. My under standing is the SI ducer also produces 2d sonar. How do I know I am selecting the shoot thru hull ducer and not the SI ducer?  I am using the Y connector for the 2 ducers.

With the AS-Si-DB-Y cable you do not choose which transducer the 2D sonar comes from as only the inside-the-hull transducer is electrically connected to your 898 unit.

If you want to be able to select which transducer you are using for the 2D sonar you need to buy and install the TS3 Transducer Switch and plug both transducers into it.  Than you will control which transducer you are using for the 2D sonar by toggling the switch.
