Title: Problems Displaying Tracks with Google Earth
Post by: Doc Stressor on February 05, 2012, 09:34:16 AM
Ever since I updated the firmware on my 997 and installed the latest version of Humminbird PC on my computer, I've had errors when I try to display my tracks in Google Earth. The tracks, which should all be off the west coast of Florida, now run through Antarctica!

Here is a picture of a screen shot.

I get the same results when I display tracks in .gpx files that were created with earlier versions of the software and firmware. I loaded the latest version of HB PC and Google Earth on a second computer running Vista and see the same thing.

The waypoints appear in the correct locations. Only the tracks are affected. I also noticed that the 997 will no longer include the tracks in the .gpx file when I use "export all navigation data" unless I save the current track first.  I never had to do this with previous firmware versions.

I'm running the 5.840 firmware release on my 997 and using Humminbird PC vs 4.1.8 on a Windows 7 computer with Internet Explorer 9.04. Google Earth is vs 6.1.0.5001.

Has anyone else had this problem or have some idea of what is going on?

I have seen other posts with people saying the same thing....definitely a bug here.

Definitely a bug.  I can get this to happen when I installed the latest version of Google Earth (6.1.0.5001) but not with an older version of Google Earth.  The GE folks have changed something that HumminbirdPC does not like so now our Engineering folks are trying to figure out what we can do to HummPC to stop this from happening.  Strange thing is that I get the same exact looking green line regardless of which track I try this with and it seems to match the one that Doc posted.  Even stranger is that it does not follow any of the trackpoints from the track itself…

Easy fix is to load an older version of Google Earth until we can modify our software to overcome what someone else broke.

Thanks Greg.

I went back and loaded Google Earth 6.0.3.2197 and I am now able to see my tracks.

All of the later releases don't work.

There are still some buggy things even with the earlier version. All the waypoints are displayed double unless you view the side bar and unclick waypoints. Then each one is shown only once. This is only a problem when you displace the root file in order to display the waypoints and tracks together.

Folks can get the earlier versions here:
