Title: Extra screw

Does anyone use the screw to keep the transducer from flipping up during high speeds?

We dont, some may do.  It is used to keep from breaking the transducer or bracket if you hit something during  a high speed run.
Althought I have broken the ear on a transducer while at a trolling speed and hitting a tree branch.
Maybe some of the other guys will jump in and respond on their thoughts...

The screw for this is a #8, 1 inch wood screw.
You should be able to find one at your local hardware store.

I never had had a transducer pop up and have broken 2 brackets to date and have never used the bracket screw.  Can not image that the screw is of any value, and may cause the transducer to break rather then the bracket (do not know).

Greg, he was asking about the use of the screw he has, not where to fine one..

George, we broke two transducer ears and one bracket and were not using the screw either.

I have only seen one transducer tilted up and we found the screw that holds the screw in the bracket was not tightened properly.

Maybe ther was a good sale on that screw..... ;D

I know that all of my brackets appear to have tight fits, but there are probably some brackets out there with lose tolerances that could cause the units to flip up under high speed, in this situation a screw is probably needed.  Now I know the screw size if I need it.

George, we usually shim the transducer with a tiney rubber disk.  works great to take up play and still lets the bracket swivel when necessary.

Learned this on the lowrance 200 skimmer..

All of my transducer brackets have been tight and have not needed to be shimmed.

George, you are right as most of the brackets and transducers line up right and are ok. Thew two that broke may have been because of not lining up the offset angle on the hard washers.
The lowrance was just a tiny bit loose. Only one of the transducers for HB was loose.
There is supposed to be some amount of small play anyway..
I guess it pays to follow the manufactures suggestion on installatiions and not second guess them..
