Title: 788 install help?
Post by: fishinman on January 16, 2012, 05:34:00 PM
I exchanged my in-dash Lowrance x-125 (finally) for a HB 788 combo in the front dash (drop-in) of my Triton.....The problem I need some help on is a way to solid the unit up in the drop in so it won't bounce out....The Lowrance had screws on the sides to attach to a bracket in the drop in, but not the 788....Any ideas or help?
Thanks

For our purposes where we use the units in a box to make them portable, we make a bracket similar to the lowrance so that we can secure the unit in the faceplate.

There is an indash mounting kit (IDMK-700  http://store.humminbird.com/products/322979/IDMK_700 (http://store.humminbird.com/products/322979/IDMK_700) ) that is available for the 788c or 788ci unit.  If you have the 788ci HD version unit you will need the IDMK-700E accessory.  Basically this is a U-bracket that mounts across the back of the unit and presses the unit against the dash.  There is also a cable connector holder to make sure the cables remain attached.

The cable holder is a must for the in-dash. Unless you can get to the back easily. Although it is not a good idea to have cable come loose when powered on.
