Title: Could i be getting interference from my jack plate?
Post by: dedwards04 on January 08, 2012, 04:24:36 PM
i have a 798 side image installed on my boat.  its always worked great untill i installed my jackplate.  now im getting these dark lines show up horizontally on my down image and also they show up on my left side image, which leads me to believe its from my jack plate because the transducer is located to the right of my jackplate.[attachimg=1]  im attaching a picture of where the transducer is mounted. i dont want to start drilling more holes all over my boat if i dont need to.

Most likely.  A known issue with the SI transducers and their selective placement..
You might want to search this forum for similiar postings on jackplate installation and the transducer.

I would think that you are getting a sonar return from the jackplate.  Try lowering your CSi transducer some to see if that helps eliminate the constant lines that you are seeing.

I would really suggest doing some searching on the forum for interference especially with your configuration.
Also look closely thru the picture gallery for others who have spent time placing their transducers.

If this started happening after you installed your jackplate then
it is the most obvious culprit.
Could you move the transducer more to the right and lower?

If that is not possible, a radical fix would be to cut some metal off
the bottom of the jackplate.

What you need to do is put a piece of stainless steel with a 1-1/4 inch lip brake on each end with two holes in each end that goes up into the opening from the bottom put two stainless bolts on each side. I believe your interference will go away.
Here is what mine looks like. Gary PS 14 gauge s/s works well
