i see that the humminbird web site say to get 8000 watts p-p you must have the correct transducer, can a 1197 be upgraded to use the new transducer? what is the advantage, or is it worth upgrading to a newer model
-
Your 1197c Si already has this capability. All you would have to do is select the “Dual 50/200” setting in the Transducer Select menu and connect up the 1KW transducer (XTH-9-DB-35-KWT).
This is not another Si transducer though as this only a 50kHz/200kHz 2D sonar transducer.

I am confused, do you have an 1197 or 1157?
Greg does the 1157 and the 1197 have the same capabilities with the “Dual 50/200”?

Goodwin....the XTH 0 DB 35 KWT is a thru the hull transducer and operates on 50 degree beam at a frequency of 200 kHz.
The display will be a traditional down display and not a side display.
The benefit is deeper readings and display quality for the depth.
You will want to use a switch to go between the normal hdsi transducer and the 1k capable transducer.
I dont think a splitter is the best here.
When switching you will have to change your transducer setting in the unit setup screen.
all you need to buy is the transducer and the switch. and maybe a cable depending on where you are mounting all of this..

Yes George, both the 1157c and 1197c Si units have the “Dual 50/200” menu setting and can both use the 1KW transducer (for 2D sonar only).

Greg......did you mean 1157? Chuck

That’s what I typed Chuck (after modifying my post! ;) ).

OK, did not see the modify. Chuck

Hi, Could expand on why you think the a splitter would not be the best please. I have just purchased the 1kw transducer for 2d use in deeper water. (I have the 1198)

In my humble opinion. I think there may be less confusion or possibility of error if the device is select primarily thru a switch and not just a setting change.
The signals are alive and avaviable when direct connected.
Just my thought.

Thanks, I apprecate your input. I am in the process of installing the 1kw transducer and had found little info on it. I was planing to use the splitter for the ease of installation. I will have to research this further....
