Gentleman,
Santa Claus (My Wife) delivered me two presents this year, (1) a t-shirt that says "Lazy, No Good Fisherman" and (2) a 998c si fish finder. I'm looking for some installation advice. I own a 2008 186 Reata Ranger Fish/Ski boat that is used for my wife to get a tan and my kids to ski/tube on and for me to fish when i'm supposed to be working. I mainly fish Ceasars Creek and Deer Creek in Ohio because there so close to me. However both lakes are not known for productive fishing therefore i look forward to using the capabilities of my 998c si.
I'm looking for a setup that works for both a Fish and Ski boat and allows me to have 2 transducers. (1) transducer used for cruising the lake mapping and looking for structure etc.. and the second one mounted on my trolling motor for vertical fishing etc..,
Any advice on transducer mounting, quick removal brackets for the 998 and recommendations on how to switch between transducers?

I believe you could either ram mount your unit to the boat and then use the transom transducer that comes with it and then depending on if you want Side Imaging on the trolling motor or not then you would need to get the humminbird XTM 9 20 T dual-beam transducer(regular 2d sonar) or the humminbird XTM 9 SI 180 T (for SideImaging). So pick one of those transducers and then get a humminbird TS3 switch to select the transducer you want to use.
If you have a trolling motor that with built-in Universal Sonar 2 (US2 - regulat 2d sonar) transducer, then you would just need the adapter cable, probably extension cable, and the TS3 switch.

Use the search tab at the top and do some searching within the forum. There are lots of topics dealing with your request.
Be creative in your search argument and you will find a lot of information. Look especially at having a transducer on a trolling motor area..You will find wiring and mounting concerns in your searches that might save you some problems.

Installation advice: I like to go with putting my head in first and then working my arms into the sleeves…
Oh, you meant the new 998c Si unit. :-[
;D ;D ;D
LocDown was right on most of that but the trolling motor transducer he quoted was the wrong one. For your 998c Si unit you need to look at the XTM-9-HDSi-180-T transducer. The RAM mount would be the bst unit mounting option. Figure out what you want to do at the bow of the boat sonar-wise before purchasing a transducer or cable for up front. The TS3 is the Transducer Switch that you will need for this.
Something that you may have to do for high-speed depth operation would be to install an inside-the-hull DualBeam transducer like the XP-9-20 and use the AS-Si-DB-Y cable this and the transom mounted HDSi transducer to the 998c Si unit. This will allow you to install the standard transom mount HDSi transducer in a location where it will work the best and also where it will be more protected (skiers may want to use it as a step to get back into the boat).

oops, I think I accidentally deleted the HD in HDSi

I have the thru-hull dual beam and SI with the Y cable on my Action Craft. Works great.
